Competency in the use of SCBA (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus) is considered a fundamental firefighting skill. In order to maintain proficiency Firefighters must train regularly with this very imporant tool. On this past thursday evening members of the Ellington Volunteer Fire Department practiced these skills under the leadership of Deputy Chief Feldman.
Putting on the SCBA correctly in sixty seconds was the first portion of the evening. During the second portion of the drill Firefighters were blindfolded and followed a hoseline through a confidence course with a victim rescue added in for a little something extra. The final portion of the drill consisted of practicing air management skills. A great refresher and confidence booster for all that participated.
