Tanker Shuttle Drill - 06/05/2010
Saturday morning you might have seen an unscheduled parade of fire trucks going up and down Main Street in Ellington. Station 43 was conducting a tanker shuttle drill with Broad Brook Fire Department. This type of exercise is intended to prepare the departments involved to provide water to non-hydranted sections of their towns. The Fire Department is also practicing this to affect our towns I.S.O Rating. The I.S.O rating of a town directly affects the insurance rate on commercial and residential properties. The lower the I.S.O. rating, the better the insurance rates are for the community. Specific criteria are assessed during an I.S.O. review in three categories: Receiving and handling fire alarms (10%), Fire Department {Including training} (50%), and water supply (40%). The members of the departments involved performed admirably. Thank you to the Broad Brook Fire Department for their participation in this drill.
